Venango Airport Will Get Flights to Cleveland
The Venango Regional Airport north of Pittsburgh is about to get air service to Cleveland Hopkins International Airport.
Gulfstream International Airlines, operating as Continental Connection, will operate the flights beginning Sept. 3, said Otho Bell, airport manager. Two nonstop flights will connect the airports Monday through Friday, along with one nonstop flight each on Saturday and Sunday. One additional flight each day will continue to DuBois, PA. The airline will use 19-seat Beech 1900 aircraft. The service will be operated under the U.S. Department of Transportations essential air service program, which subsidizes flights to small towns.
Previously, the Venango airport had direct flights to Pittsburgh International Airport on Air Midwest, which flew as US Airways Express. Those flights stopped in May. We are very happy to have air service for the community, Bell said. We are happy with what we see so far with Cleveland as a hub. The airport is about 80 miles north of Downtown Pittsburgh. Some of the airports passengers come from closer to the Pittsburgh area, including Slippery Rock and Grove City, Bell said.
